Friesland has a lot to offer. If you haven’t discovered this province before, you’ll feel like you’re in a foreign country. There are nice villages and towns, beautiful nature parks and of course lots of water. But that doesn’t just make Friesland popular in the summer, because a lot is also possible in the fall. Here are three tips.

1. Visit one of the beautiful villages in Friesland

Leeuwarden and Sneek are definitely worth a visit, but don’t forget the beautiful smaller villages of Friesland. Go out in Lemmer, Joure or Sloten. Sloten is called one of the most beautiful villages in Friesland. This village is not only located on the Slotermeer, it has only 760 inhabitants. With its marina, water gates and cozy city center, Sloten has something special. Lemmer is a busy seaside resort in the summer and the place to get a breath of fresh air in the autumn. It is located right on the IJsselmeer and is one of the most important fishing villages in our country. Joure is inextricably linked to Douwe Egberts and is one of the most beautiful villages for walking and cycling because of its beautiful nature.

2. Go to a restaurant in Friesland

For anyone who loves pure and delicious food, Friesland is the place to taste. You will find nice restaurants with mainly products from our own region. That is not surprising, because there is an abundance of livestock, agriculture and growers in Friesland. Friesland also has many delicacies of its own, which are definitely worth tasting. Nowhere is the sugar bread as delicious as in Friesland and a shot of Berenburg should not be missed when visiting this province.

3. Take the boat to Vlieland or Terschelling

Did you know that part of the Wadden Islands belongs to Friesland? A must to take the boat to Vlieland, Ameland, Schiermonnikoog or Terschelling. In no time you will be on one of our Dutch islands and you can enjoy unspoilt nature, tranquility, a beautiful coast and endless cycling routes.
